Father's
House International began with a personal call of God to us for
international adoption. Several years ago he began to impress on
us the overwhelming needs of the fatherless overseas and continually
took us to scriptures that revealed his heart for his children.
In addition, the scriptures clearly revealed his command to us as
believers to care for the fatherless. While we know that not all
are called to adoption, we also know that it is not only for the
childless or infertile, although it can be a powerful and miraculous
answer for them. Whatever your circumstance, we invite you to examine
your hearts and listen to the Father to determine the role to which
he is calling you in caring for the fatherless, as his commands
are to all believers. While we and others hope to find families
for many abandoned children, there will always be many more beautiful,
forgotten children remaining in institutions. Thus our relief efforts
detailed on pages of this site.
Our
personal journey led to the adoption of Justice Alexander Mills
on September 29, 2000. Although we did not adopt Justice out of
our own need (we already had three biological children), but because
of his, he has quickly become one of the biggest blessings of our
lives and also of our other children's. We cannot imagine life without
him. As we are obedient to the Father, he meets our needs and rewards
our obedience. We will not tell you, because it would not be true,
that the preparation for adoption or the trip or the parenting of
an adopted child (especially as number four), is an easy process.
It is not. But we can promise you that it is rewarding and fulfilling.
The miraculous joy of seeing an adopted child respond and grow upon
receiving love and plenty of nourishment for the first time in his
life, is something you can't experience any other way. The desire
of our hearts in founding Father's House International is to help
others know the joy of responding to God's call on our lives to
care for the fatherless, whether through adoption or other means,
and to see as many children as possible touched by the Father's
love.
Sincerely,
Sheila
and James Mills
